I may not be going home this weekend. Both Snoqualmie and Stevens passes are closed. I could fly (very expensive on such short notice) or go through Portland (about 8.5 hours of driving instead of 5.0). I may end up spending the weekend in my Seattle area bunker, writing software for The Borg, and feeling sorry for myself.

Avalanche control work continues and it is now estimated that I-90 Snoqualmie pass will not open earlier than Saturday morning. Opening the roadway will be based on avalanche risk analysis. The roadway will be opened when it is safe to do so. WSDOT will give updates as work progresses and information becomes available. // Snowing, blowing snow and poor visibility

Just substitute “Warming” with “Climate Change” and it works for all occasions. Hence; “We must remove more of your freedom in an effort to combat Global Climate Change.”
The bogeyman de jour must be rotated or people get tired of it. When I was a kid it was cyclamates, food preservatives, DDT, and the fact that we were going to be out of oil by 1985, to name just a few, that were going to kill us all if we didn’t surrender more freedom. Oh, and the fact that the World was then being plunged into an ice age due to deforestation, and the “Population Timebomb” was going to see us packed shoulder to shoulder on every inch of dry land, starving, by 1990 if we didn’t go to Africa and hand out condoms and pills to the black people.
Yup, they loved scaring the shit out of little elementary school kids. That at least has remained the same.
