Quote of the day–Thomas Jefferson

The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others.  But it does me no injury for my neighbor to say there are twenty gods, or no God.  It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg.

Thomas Jefferson
[A concept that has served us well for over 200 years but the Muslims still have not learned. It appears they are slow learners. But then if you look at our recreational drug laws and gun laws we still have a lot to learn as well.–Joe]

  1. That’s a good one– TJ was a real cool cat.

We could apply that quote to some of our current politics:

It does me no injury for my neighbor to shop at Wall mart or to boycott Wall Mart. As a holder of Wall Mart stock, it neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg.

It does me no injury for my neighbor to say there is Global Warming or Global Cooling, or that Halliburton and Carl Rove are causing it. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg.

It does me no injury for my neighbor to invest his OWN resources in fetal stem cell research, or in alternative fuels technology. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg.

But I suppose this is subversive talk in this day and age.
