It stands to reason that self-righteous, inflexible, single-minded, authoritarian true believers are politically organized. Open-minded, flexible, complex, ambiguous, anti-authoritarian people would just as soon be left to mind their own fucking business.

Reminds me of Jon Stewart’s quote:

Because I have shit to do, because I want nothing more in all the world than to mind my own fucking business while other people mind theirs, I am an extremist for Liberty. I therefore want the country’s government under the management of similar extremists for Liberty. Moderation has no place when we’re talking about human rights, except maybe, rarely, as a ruse for deceiving extremist socialists.
John Stuart’s head is on crooked. What he should have said, but never will, is, “The country is run by socialists and thieves because honest capitalists have shit to do.” The reason he will never say that is he is a socialist.
